Questions on BacPac portable fire suppression kit

1. Is the BacPac portable fire suppression kit safe for use on ALL classes of fire?
The BacPac is safe for us on all classes of fire including: A, B, C, D*, E, F (*excluding reactive metals such as lithium, magnesium, sodium, potassium etc.)

2. Is this a high-pressure product?
No. The BacPac operates at approximately 5 – 7 bar of pressure. Recharging only requires 15 bars therefore it is not a high-pressure product.

3. Do I have to wear personal protective equipment when using this product?
Health and safety regulations state; in fighting fires to reduce the risk as much as possible; if PPE is available it is advised to be used. We recommend a competent person wearing appropriate personal protective equipment suitable for the risk involved with that particular fire.

4. Can I overfill my BacPac?
This is very difficult to do but possible if not filled correctly. It is important when refilling that you do not obstruct the refill cup, as this will prevent correct levelling of the water. Please refer to the User Manual for a guide on this

5. What distance is safe to fight a fire with this product?
Release a short burst of WaterMist from a height to create a cool ‘mist blanket’ offering protection from radient heat. For optimum fire fighting results maintain a maximum distance of 2 metres. Move closer if it is safe to extinguish the base of the fire once the flame is suppressed, at a minimum distance of 0.3 metres.

6. Who can use a BacPac product?
A competent person with fire fighting knowledge can use the BacPac. The product is very simple to use and requires minimal training, however a good understanding of how to safely fight a fire is important.

7. It looks heavy; can I use this by myself?
Yes. The BacPac falls within UK Health and Safety (HSE) Manual Handling Regulations for single person lifting, however FireBug endorse a two person fitting where necessary. The product weight is 11.37kgs empty and 23.37kgs filled, below UK HSE Manual Handling Regulations. To further reduce the risk of weight related injury the bag has been designed to distribute weight evenly with a kidney waistband, adjustable straps and cushioning.

9. Why is it better than my standard extinguisher/ fire fighting methods?
The BacPac is more manoeuvrable and capable than a standard fire extinguisher for a rapid intervention and knockdown. The BacPac is economically viable as it can be reused and refilled onsite. It is suitable for a variety of fires where often a fire truck and hose would have to be used, and it’s much more portable and easy to use than unrolling lots of hose for hard to reach fires.

10. What is your target market?
Our target market was initially the Fire & Rescue services. Because of its ease of use and efficiency its has proven popular in the commercial sector including zoos, construction sites, heliports, shopping centres, airports and heritage sites to date.

11. What are the maintenance and servicing requirements of the BacPac?
The BacPac has to be serviced annually by an approved service agent. We have various daily, weekly and monthly checks to ensure your product is working at its optimum performance.
