FireBug’s WaterMist fire extinguishers in Historic Homes

FireBug are supplying a range of WaterMist fire protection into a very niche market – historic homes, for the protection of antiques, paintings and valuable possessions.

Castle Howard is a magnificent 18th-century residence set within 1000 acres of breath-taking landscape in the Howardian Hills, just 15 miles North-East of York. It houses world-renowned art collections and is also a thriving rural estate with many traditional enterprises such as farming and forestry. The profits generated from all estate businesses contribute towards the on-going restoration and conservation of 200 listed buildings and monuments.

Two days before FireBug held a WaterMist demonstration, Castle Howard had a late night fire in the garage. Classed as a ‘perfect fire’ the building contained; cylinders, paints, chemicals, tools, motorbikes etc, all the items that contribute to an extremely dangerous situation. Being close to domestic residences, the garage fire had the potential to not only damage the externals of the building but also communications cabling, metal battening, historic detailing etc.

Mr. Howard was so impressed with the technology he has recommended us the Historic Housing Association. Other comments that were made on the day of our demonstration were relating to the impressive speed of extinguishing and the environmental aspects and lack of damage from extinguishing.
